Alex is a qualified clinician, and the first Syrian Rhodes Scholar. He is an Oxford-trained international health specialist (MSc) pursuing an Engineering DPhil in machine learning for healthcare with the CHI Lab. Alex is supervised by Prof David Clifton, Prof Peter Watkinson, and Dr Tingting Zhu.

Alex is passionate about AI-driven healthcare innovations and entrepreneurship. He has recently worked with the Entrepreneur First (EFLD12) business incubator in London and has been selected one of the 200 individuals to be awarded a “Digital Technology Exceptional Talent” visa from the UK in 2019.

Back in Syria, Alex has created a medical research team (www.medresearchteam.com) at his alma mater, Tishreen University. This venture is building research capacity in Syria by connecting Syrian researchers with international specialists. Alex holds a non-executive advisory position with the team. Alexey is a member of St. Cross College.

Alex’s interests include research concerning the use of big data in healthcare to understand predictive factors for autoimmune diseases.

Biomedical Signal Processing and Instrumentation

Alex’s current work uses Clinical Artificial Intelligence to improve the operational efficiency of Data-Driven hospitals. He is supervised by Prof David Clifton and Prof Peter Watkinson.
