Dr. Lei Lu is a Senior Research Associate at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford. He obtained his PhD degree from the Harbin Institute of Technology in China; he had research experience as a visiting student at the University of British Columbia, Canada; and he had postdoctoral research at the University of Melbourne, Australia. Dr. Lu’s research focuses on clinical machine learning, with a particular emphasis on multimodal AI in healthcare. He also has an interest in developing model-guided machine learning algorithms for practical applications in biomedical engineering. His expertise lies in designing large-scale and explainable deep learning models for the diagnosis and risk management of cardiovascular diseases. He also specialises in developing robust machine learning models for robotic-assisted stroke rehabilitation, and using wearable devices for intelligent condition monitoring to improve healthcare outcomes.
