Carla V. Fuenteslópez, a doctoral researcher at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, has been awarded the ON Orthoregeneration Award at the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS) European Chapter Conference 2026.

TERMIS is the largest international conference in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, bringing together academic, clinical, and industry leaders from across the field. This year’s conference, held in Palma de Mallorca, marked the 20th anniversary of the society and welcomed more than 1,600 participants from 49 countries.
The ON Orthoregeneration Award is presented to a single researcher whose work demonstrates strong scientific merit and translational relevance. Carla was selected as the overall winner from a shortlist of three finalists, following presentations in a dedicated award session.

The award recognises her research on the development of a human relevant three-dimensional in vitro microvascular model for studying non penetrating traumatic injuries. Conducted within the Tissue Engineering and the Mechanobiology groups led by Prof Cathy Ye and Prof Mark Thompson, her work advances understanding of soft tissue injury and has potential applications in regenerative medicine and musculoskeletal repair.
In addition to receiving the award, Carla delivered oral presentations at both the TERMIS conference and the SEMIT satellite meeting, engaging with an international audience across topics including biomaterials, vascular tissue engineering, and translational regenerative medicine.
Attendance at the conference was supported by St Hugh’s College and the Oxford Mechanobiology Group, enabling dissemination of this research to a global audience.
This award highlights the quality and impact of research being carried out at IBME. We congratulate Carla on this achievement and look forward to the continued development of this work.
