Neurovascular Assessment

Neurovascular dysfunction is commonly associated with a number of neurological conditions from dementia and stroke to cancer. In order to develop interventions to address the impact of this it is essential to be able to localise and quantify the deficits, and to assess the efficacy of novel treatments. Research within the BioMedIA cluster works towards the development of novel neurovascular measurement and imaging techniques looking at blood flow, perfusion, and oxygenation in the brain in both healthy subjects and patient populations. Using novel MRI sequences and analysis methods, combined with transcranial Doppler ultrasound (TCD), near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), and pupillometry to provide a non-invasive window into the supply of oxygen in the brain.
