Latifah Almulla, a DPhil researcher at the IBME in the Oxford Bioelectronics Laboratory, has been awarded the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Hudswell International Research Scholarship in recognition of excellence in engineering research.

The scholarship is awarded annually through a competitive selection process and supports outstanding postgraduate researchers from across the international engineering community. It forms part of the IET’s wider commitment to encouraging high-quality research careers and supporting the next generation of engineers.


Latifah’s research focuses on implantable brain drug delivery technologies, with the aim of advancing bioelectronic and microfluidic approaches for the treatment of neurological disorders and enabling their translation towards clinical application.
Reflecting on the award, Latifah said:
“I am delighted and deeply honoured to be selected as this year’s recipient of the Hudswell International Research Scholarship. Receiving this recognition from the Institution of Engineering and Technology is particularly meaningful at this stage of my DPhil and serves as a strong validation of the research we are undertaking at Oxford. The award will support the next phase of my work through pre-clinical in vivo studies, helping to advance the translational potential of bioelectronic and microfluidic technologies for neurological disorders. It will also play an important role in my development as an independent researcher, helping me build a track record for securing future research funding and supporting my aspiration to pursue an independent academic research career. I am sincerely grateful to my supervisor, colleagues and collaborators for their continued support throughout this journey.”
