Caitlin completed her undergraduate study of Physics in 2026, receiving a First-Class honours degree in MPhys Physics from the University of Exeter. Her Master’s thesis involved utilising the sub-wavelength structure of metamaterial arrays to fabricate and develop a tactile pressure-sensing device. Her experience in developing sensing technologies, keen interest in sport, and mathematical background inspire her interest in technology for sports medicine. Key areas of interest include wearable sensing for neuromuscular monitoring, opportunities for integrating wearable technology with motion capture, and ultimately identifying (in an attempt to mitigate) the risk factors for athlete injury.
Caitlin is a DPhil student at The Podium Institute for sports medicine and technology. Her work focusses on wearable sensing, utilising multi-modal data collection. Her interests concerning current and prospective research involve:
- Wearable sensing
- Estimation of joint load forces
- Motion capture, and its integration with wearable devices
- Quantitative assessment of athlete injury risk factors
- Sensor development

Caitlin’s current work involves developing wearable sensing for the upper limb. She is interested primarily in the shoulder and elbow joints, with a view to tennis athletes. By combining data from strain sensors and inertial measurement units, her aim is to accurately track kinematic and neuromuscular motion.
