Dr. John Fleming is Postdoctoral Research Engineer working with Professor Tim Denison in the Translational Bioelectronics lab in the Institute of Biomedical Engineering and the MRC Brain Network Dynamics Unit at the University of Oxford.
John Fleming obtained his Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering from University College Dublin, Ireland, in 2021. John’s doctoral research focused on the development of closed-loop control strategies for deep brain stimulation to treat motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. To test his approaches, John developed computational models of the parkinsonian central and peripheral nervous system during deep brain stimulation, with the model acting as a surrogate testbed for the initial validation of his control approaches.
John’s current work focuses on the development of neuromodulation interventions for the treatment of neurological disorders. He is the lead support engineer for the CADET project – a clinical trial investigating the use of thalamic deep brain stimulation for treating children with a Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a severe type of childhood onset epilepsy.
