Mattan received a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Florida State University in 2023, where he applied computational methods to neuroscience projects related to creating 2D flat maps of MRI scans in Alzheimer’s Disease, analysing neurological effects of Long COVID, and smell decoding in two-photon micrsocopy calcium imaging of mouse olfactory bulbs.

Following industry work as a software engineer, he pursued a M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering (Neurotechnology) from Imperial College London, focusing his thesis on decoding and controlling collision avoidance in a biohybrid fly-robot interface system.

In 2025 he began DPhil research focused on developing adaptive neuromodulation systems for the treatment of chronic pain.
