Shaina Shankar is a DPhil student in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford, based in the Biomedical Ultrasonics, Biotherapy and Biopharmaceuticals Laboratory (BUBBL). Her research centres on ultrasound-enabled delivery of immunotherapies into solid tumours, with a focus on protein cavitation nuclei (PCaNs).

She holds a Master of Biomedical Engineering and a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Chemical Engineering from the University of New South Wales. Her thesis, carried out at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Nanoscale Biophotonics, developed a X-ray-triggered lipid-polymer hybrid nanoparticle for triple negative breast cancer. She is also a co-author of a review on liposome formulations for breast cancer therapeutics published in Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences.

Before joining Oxford, Shaina worked as a Life Safety Engineer at in Sydney and as a Process Engineer at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation.

Shaina’s DPhil investigates ultrasound-enabled delivery of immunotherapies into solid tumours. Her work focuses on protein cavitation nuclei (PCaNs) as a means of overcoming the physical and biological barriers that limit how well therapeutics reach and penetrate tumour tissue.
